Advertising/Marketing

Anyone have any experience or suggestions on this? We are looking for the best way to get more players to join Port Galaxy, and have around a $1000 budget to spend on advertising. Currently we are only making plans to advertise on Facebook, and some MMO sites, but I am interested to know if there are better places.

I think you should look to advertise around your town/city. It'll be more effective and loads cheaper. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying go and plaster the walls of your town in paper or spray your way to jail; it can be as simple as finding some cheap.. possibly free alternatives!

Local Shops, Popular Destinations.. heck even get your friend to post some around their town!
Effective, but possibly time and money consuming (hence not everyone has a child/teen in their household)

If you're not into the glitz and glam of paying $100's for your local print shop to showcase your work, simply use the best technique (not web related)..

I find that's one of the many most effective ways of advertising freely, and easily. Unfortunately you do need to answer the thousands of questions and face to face criticism IF there is any.

Other than that, Forums and if possible, websites.

or you can make community banners/advertisements, when that happens, you should also have some google advertisements, the internet isn't the only public domain .

I know the best place of all... The Internet (as a whole). First of all, don't think just inside the box and limit your exposure, think outside of that box and try to expose your new game as much as possible. Consider monetizing your website and game so that once you launch your product, that $1,000 will only increase and pay for itself.

I don't know how Facebook works with advertising and if you have to pay(which I guess you do) but I would say that is a very good option to take. Many people would click the advert and hopefully play your game. The other ideas are great too. Hope you find what your looking for.

Facebook works by displaying adverts based on different target markets. For example, if there is a ad aimed at single 27-year-olds, the advertisee will enter this and the advertiser (facebook) will automatically make the ad only appear to people who are registered as being 27 and whose relationship status on facebook is 'single'. Kinda cool, eh?

Anyway, what about getting your members to help by creating forum sig. banners? I dunno what the currency is on PortGalaxy, but you could have recruiting/advertising/referral rewards..? Just an idea...

You could also kindly ask some of the members of the forum who own websites to... I dunno ...joint advertising campaign? Links between them? Traffic share? I dunno... There are hundreds of ways. You could even try a bux site :L.

I think marketing on Facebook would be effective for you. Today marketing on social media sites like Facebook and Tweeter is become much popular and powerful business strategy.

Yes, I also agree that marketing on Facebook and Twitter would be best for getting traffic. Other than that social bookmarking, forum posting and blog commenting would be best for getting higher search engine rankings.

Hire a SEO Service. This will improve you're rank on google, Advertise on facebook and other type of social media websites.
