Welcome to the Brother/SisterHood. Just to give you a feel of how competitive the field is, for clients who pay REAL good money.

www.99designs.com

But you're competing for the best layout. So just head over there, and lay down what you can do.

So people flame senor for charging $20 for a template but not Crissic?!
#3
Here we go...
#4
I like the prices, and your layouts. Good luck!
#5
Why are we complaining about his prices? It's his own choice what to price his work at. Honestly being cheaper could give him the edge against other people since others do charge much more.
#6
I charge The price I do, because I wnat to be affordable by everyone. Design doesnt always take 4 hours.

Also as for 99designs.com I go there often and have won competitions before

I'm not being disrespectful but if I wanted a design I'd either do it myself or get a freelancer to do it for me. Sure, they'd charge me a hell of a lot more but I'd get better quality. Plus I could charge it back when they come to me for coding work like they always do lol.

Adam some people are in it because the enjoy it. I find it hard to understand why people would do a job whn they are older that they completely hate. I wouldn't, as I would not be able to handle it!
#16
But you see, some people are forced into jobs, for example they have to have the job rather than be jobless, then lose their accomodation, family, friends etc.

Life isn't easy when you're away from home.

But anyway back to topic, I'd rather not spam another thread when I ask for no spam in mine!

I 100% disagree
Charging less for designs doesn't mean anything and isn't hurting the design industry at all. The company I work for where I do web design (JBA Network) gets paid tons for some of the most basic stuff I've ever seen. Regardless of the prices people will go for longer resumes and bigger portfolios. Prices are a small part. People create lower prices because they enjoy what they do and not just that they want to create a longer resume/portfolio so
maybe in the future they will be able to make thousands of dollars for designs.

At least make it worth your time. $20 for a whole template isn't worth it even if it only takes an hour.
#20
Its worth my time, seeing I enjoy doing it. And I beieve I said $25-$50 for coded.
#21
Basically, most teenagers wont go to a pro company and pay $100's, Im a tenneager designing most likely for teenagers, thats that.
#22
I mean all this thread is really is a bunch of teens trying to tell other teens how to run a business, which is damn retarded. Adam, obviously if your friends feel that the market is being weighed down maybe they should look at themselves and ask "What is it I am doing wrong for these teenagers to get tons of clients but I'm getting none" you cannot fully tell someone how to run their own business if you don't have full experience with it yourself.

Back on topic please. If you have anything further to say that isn't related to the topic, take it to PMs.

Hey Guys. As most of you know, I have stopped working on Swauv to develop my web design works. My site is http://www.smberns.com/ but just has a splash page up, as it is under construction.

I do my graphics in Photoshop CS3. I have been using Photoshop for almost 4 years now.

I am fluent in CSS and (x)html. I code all my layouts using div's and css.

Work Examples

Pricing
I generally charge $20-$30 for uncoded designs(just PSD). And $25-$50 to design and code a layout depending on difficulty, time consumption, and schedule.

If anyone is interested in my services, I am open for business, I do currently have a few clients, but can take some more on.

If interested you can contact me via:

Don't you think you should focus on finishing your own site before taking on other projects?
#32
You under charge. $20 for a layout. If that takes you about 4 hours, that is shocking pay.
#33
Matt is right. Most places charge on how many pages needed etc, plus estimated labour.
