Cape Noir; update 01
Hey gang,

I'm going to be giving a few spread out updates to catch you up to where we are currently so for now here is a nice graphics preview.

Almost in its final stages is the first available room. It will be used in early phases of Cape Noir as a general access room. Kind of a default i guess. Depending on certain data collected, users will appear in a certain room dependant on their personal individuality, but while in these early game phases we need a general fitting room, which could also host specific responsibilities in future.

Still Work in progress, but progress is progress…

Its looking super, I love those stools you've made. Only thing I dislike is the things on the wooden table.

This looks fantastic. Congratulations on getting your project underway. I hope you keep us updated here, it's great to see another game taking shape!

Out of curiosity, what made you decide to target older users? I would have thought that the majority of people interested in something like this would be teenagers.

It's great nonetheless, and it's great that you are planning on being not-for-profit, as well. Will you have some sort of cosmetic items for sale in order to pay for the hosting and developers? Or, will you rely on donations, or ad revenue?

I know you said in your previous post you would not be building a new social network, does this mean you will be focusing mainly on the client, or are you planning on building some social features into the website itself?

Sorry for all the questions Happybracket
Good luck with the project.

Stu

Thanks for the kind words!

In answer to your questions @bibelot

I know you said in your previous post you would not be building a new social network, does this mean you will be focusing mainly on the client, or are you planning on building some social features into the website itself?

Cape noir focuses mainly on the client and on our back end data management. You can register on cape noir through a form but that is not the preferred method and is a sub option. The best way to join is to connect through outside social networks. This gathers your account data for you and is a one click process. This gives us the benefit of customising the users experience to suit their personal preferences. You then simply walk into cape noir from your choice of social network connecting you with other users.

How do you plan to pay for hosting and developers?

Because we are a small independent group much of the work done on Cape Noir is done by us. Currently i am funding the start of the project and in the near future we will be heavily reliable on donations, we will never ask for them, but the option is there for those who like the project. After that the future is unknown, I'm not a fan of adverts but its more than likely in the distant future we will need small out of the way adverts to help fund hosting.

What made you decide to target older users? I would have thought that the majority of people interested in something like this would be teenagers.

The younger audience is already a market captured by games, bright colours and 'fun entertainment'. Habbo is already the market leader in MMOCCs especially for that age gap. Focusing on an older audience means we have a free market to capture and allows us to create a great social application that does not yet exist and who's users will not already have expectations of the MMOCC conventions. changing the concept of an MMOCC from a 'game' to a social application repurposes the familiar environment into a use for a different audience.

I will add these questions to a Cape Noir FAQ thread.
